You know those emails you get in your inbox for a really cool business opportunity and you immediately think “Did they email the right person? Are you serious? Is this real life?! HOLY CRAP!” Well – I’m not gonna lie – that was exactly how I felt when the Marketing Manager at Tempaper reached out to me for a brand session of their company founders, Jennifer and Julia. Tempaper is a peel and stick wallpaper company based in Brick, NJ, founded by the amazing twin sister duo of Jenn and Julia and has seen massive success, even getting their product in Target, Home Depot, Crate and Barrel, Urban Outfitters and more. For this session, we were focused on two different types of photos: Lifestyle photos (more of a homey vibe) and business badasses – for lack of a better term ;).
We started out the session in Jennifer’s home in Wall, NJ. It was a BEAUTIFUL home and we wanted to focus on capturing a lot of different rooms and scenes here with Jenn and Julia together, and individually. Jenn’s living room had a huge mural – of their wallpaper – across the entire length of the long wall. It was a palm tree print in black and white and seriously looked INCREDIBLE. We started out taking some lifestyle photos in the kitchen, but then quickly moved to the living room where we captured MAGICCCC of these two amazing women!
Not only did we have this great mural as a backdrop, but we also took a lot of photos here with rolls of wallpaper and I just think these came out so fun! I could have shot in this room all day! And – since they’re nearing the 100k mark on Instagram, we also took some really fun photos with balloons so they could celebrate that when the time comes!
After getting everything we needed in the living room, we set up the dining room to be a working, design scene. We spread out all the wallpaper books, swatches, magazines for inspiration, and more all over the dining room table to capture sine really awesome shots of them in design mode. I LOVE these shots and also love that the dining room had one of their metallic wallpapers prints on the wall.
From there, we took a few more lifestyle photos at Jenn’s house in the master bedroom to capture one more mural, and then headed to their office in Brick, NJ for the rest!
Once we got to the office we transitioned into more of the Badass Female Founder vibes as we took photos throughout the office. Of course, a wallpaper company is going to have really cute backdrops for photos, so we took photos in Jenn and Julia’s offices, the conference room, and a few other offices throughout the building. I can really envision them pitching to Forbes and Business Insider and just seeing these photos share how awesome their story is.
Which leads me to… their business journey!
Tempaper was founded in 2006, when the Aunt of Co-founders, Jennifer and Julia was working in set design. After realizing that was costing too much time and money to apply and remove traditional wallpaper on set, the idea for peel and stick wallpaper was born. Jenn and Julia teamed up, and began sourcing materials to begin production in 2006. Two years later, in 2008, their first 4 patterns were launched into the world, their website went live, and they were recognized by the press for the first time in the Home and Garden section by The New York Times. Fast forward years of grit and hard work and passion, and their US patent was granted in 2013, followed by getting their products into Target in 2014 with their first designer collection – a collaboration with Bobby Berk. Not one year later, they expanded to the Japanese market and became certified by the WBENC. In 2017, they got the press gift of a lifetime, being featured on the front cover of the Spring Edition of Martha Stewart magazine!!! In 2018, they were a finalist for NYCxDESIGN awards, and made the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest growing companies in America in 2019. Through the pandemic in 2020, their company continued to grow, and now offers 300+ products on their site!!
As a women owned business with big dreams myself – I have to say that this timeline is astounding and so dang impressive. I LOVE watching incredible and passionate and just good people achieve big things and I know that these two are going to inspire so many throughout their time in business.
Jenn and Julia – you guys are pretty badass if I do say so myself. I absolutely LOVED getting to know you both and honestly had a blast at your shoot.
