Brand Session at Designblendz in Montclair, NJ for Scott Murphy Project Manager NJ

I’m so excited to be coming atcha today with this short and sweet mini brand session for MY HUSBAND!  With a day’s notice, Scott told me he needed photos for a landing page and marketing campaign that his company, Designblendz was going to be doing for their NJ office location.  I met him in their Montclair, NJ office to get some lifestyle shots of him working, and just in general, some new headshots!  

Before I get into the session – here’s a little backstory to Designblendz:

Back in college, Scott, along with 5 of his friends, started a design blog that they called Designblendz. Each of the 6 guys had one topic that they’d write about on occasion – from architecture theory, to visualization, and more.  A few months into the blog, they started picking up random jobs for local architects when they needed extra hands to get a job done. They started curating an awesome portfolio of work before even leaving college, constantly getting in trouble by teachers for not working on their schoolwork, but instead working on “Designblendz work”.

After college, they tried to get Designblendz off the ground, hustling with their post card marketing campaign from the guest room of Founder and CEO’s home – Brian Corcodilios. It was a slow burn at first, but not long after those first few months of struggle – an incredible business started to form. They got an office on Main Street, Manayunk in the greater Philadelphia area, and the operation started to expand.  Now – they have over 30 employees and are one of the top firms and fastest growing firms in the city of Philadelphia.

Scott – my husband and one of the original co-founders, was venturing to start a NJ branch of Designblendz in Montclair.  These photos were for their marketing campaign! I am SO proud of what they all have built and it amazes me where it all began.

Now, onto the shoot!

I have always LOVED Scott’s style when it comes to hand drawing, sketching, and rendering, and love that this is something he still gets to do for some of his projects. I knew I wanted this to be a focus of the shoot. 

We started out with photos of him presenting a project on the TV to a client. Then we went to the sketching table, where he whipped up some amazing sketches of the projects he was working on. I captured a few clean white wall headshots of him here, and a few drawing shots, as well as overhead shots that they could use as backgrounds for their website or landing pages.

To end this short and sweet shoot, I wanted to get a picture of him outside – with their storefront! It was a really awesome thing to be located on Church St. in Montclair, and I love that was have documentation of this exciting venture for Designblendz!
