As part of Laura Lee Creative, I am always looking for new ways to interact and engage with new, amazing entrepreneurs and creatives. One of my business visions is to have a community of creatives (ideally, around a firepit) who are in all different stages of their business all sharing their experiences and helping each other grow. But as many of you know from experience, doing the dreaded “growing your email list” isn’t always that easy (or fun!) When a friend told me about this amazing new tool from Try Interact, a Quiz Maker, I was SO excited to start building my own custom quiz and share this fun tool with future (or current) creatives in my community.
Today, I want to do two things. First, I want to tell you a little bit about my process creating a quiz and how it is helping me grow a more engaged community of creatives. And second, I want to give you resources for creating your own quiz!
If you are like me, you’ve done your fair share of quizzes.
From the fun BuzzFeed quizzes about your dog personality to business-specific quizzes for courses, there are SO many quizzes out there. So, the thought of creating my own quiz for a specific audience of creatives was really exciting and fun! I started by thinking about why I was creating the quiz and what I wanted the “quiz taker” to get out of taking it. I decided to go with, “what type of creative entrepreneur are you” because I wanted the questions to be geared toward understanding what stage of business the creative is in. That way, I could tailor products, services, and resources directly to each individual!
My Process
The process of creating and setting up this quiz could not have been more seamless and stress-free. The Interact platform walks you through each step of the process and it is super easy to follow. I started by deciding between a template or custom quiz. I was able to create a custom quiz that matched my brand voice as well as all of my brand colors/styles. And if you don’t want to start from scratch, there are tons of amazing templates you can use to create the quiz that is right for you and your business.
Examples of Template Options
After I selected the custom template, I was given the choice of what “type of quiz” I wanted to go with. I decided on Personality because I thought that was the best way to assess this type of audience. But, you can choose between Assessment, Personality, or Scored.
Now it was time to create a quiz! Oh my gosh was this fun! I loved creating a quiz with a combination of fun questions like “what’s your theme song” to more business-focused questions like “how far away are you from making your dream business a reality?” The questions gave me a great opportunity to really understand my audience and hear from them about what they love, struggle with, and want to achieve. I really wanted these questions to make the readers reflect on their business and where they are hoping to be one day on an informal, fun, easy to use platform.
Each of the creative personalities in this quiz is you. Whether you are still dreaming and thinking up ways to go full time or if you are on your second month-long sabbatical this year, you are part of this amazing creative community. My intention with the results of this quiz was to direct each person, with whatever “personality” they end on, to the right resources and tools to continue pursuing their dreams and continue this crazy, rewarding business adventure!

Why You Should Create a Quiz
If you’ve visited my site to view this blog, you will see that I have the quiz embedded on my home page as a pop-up. That way, someone can take the quiz right when they get on the site and I can direct them to the correct resources for their business, right away. No more scrolling around someone’s website wondering if they are the right fit for you and your business. Send them to the right place immediately and capture the lead before you use up too much of their precious time.
In addition to directing new visitors to your Shop or resources page, the quiz can help with one VERY important piece of marketing – growing your email list. The quiz can help you grow your list AND give new visitors something fun and tangible to interact with on your site. It’s a win, win! And best of all, Interact integrates with most email marketing platforms like ConvertKit so you can add these new sign-ups directly to your list!
Tips for Getting Started
-
Decide what you want your reader to get out of the quiz (i.e. what do you want to direct them to at the end of the quiz – resources, coaching, a Facebook page, etc.?)
-
If you are doing a personality quiz, start by creating the personalities FIRST.
-
Then, create a list of questions that match the personalities (and your brand)
-
Mix it up! Make some questions fun, others more pointed toward the end goal/personality.
-
Have fun with it! Put yourself in the shoes of the quiz taker. Would this be something you would have fun completing?
The last point is really what I wanted to focus on when I was building my quiz. I wanted my quiz to be fun and engaging for the creatives who were either first-time visitors or were returning to my website for new resources. The intent is to share education with my community and give creatives in every stage of their business useful resources to be successful. In the end, we are all in this together. No matter where we are in our business. It’s all about supporting each other, empowering with education and building each other up as we conquer this business adventure together!
